Reason for Risk/Development History:
December 1991: A demolition application is lodged by the Salvation Army, to make way for a proposed new-build of flats on the cleared site. The application is refused at appeal. December 1992: The Salvation Army submit a second demolition application, which is also refused. 1994: Edinburgh College of Art acquires the church, and applies for permissions to convert it into a students' union or exhibition space. August 1995: Consent is granted for change of use into an exhibition gallery. February 1998: Phase 1 of external refurbishment is completed, following Historic Scotland grant aid. April 1998: Edinburgh College of Art confirms that it still intends to refurbish the interior, although there are currently some financial constraints. February 2000: Local planners report that financial constraints continue to hamper the restoration of the interior. December 2003: Local planners report that the church is included in initial proposals for the development of the college. January 2004: Historic Scotland reports that the development is at the planning stage. November 2005: The church is put up for sale through Rydens. April 2006: Fife Herald and Post report that the church has now been sold and that its owners are in discussion with the planners re its possible redevelopment (along with the adjacent Salvation Army building) to a £4m. hotel development.
February 2008: Local planners report no change.

December 2009: The Edinburgh Evening News reports that there are proposals to turn the building into a hostel and cafe which are currently being considered by the council.
