Changes at the Buildings at Risk Register as of 1 April 2011

Historic Scotland have appointed the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) to maintain the Buildings at Risk Register (BARR) in Scotland.

As of 1 April 2011 RCAHMS will take over the contract to maintain the Buildings at Risk Register (BARR) from the Scottish Civic Trust, who have operated it since 1990. RCAHMS and Historic Scotland look forward to building on the Scottish Civic Trust's excellent work to maintain and develop the BARR over the last 20 years.

RCAHMS and Historic Scotland will work with local authorities and the wider built environment sector to ensure that the BARR continues to provide reliable data for all users, including informing Scotland Performs and initiatives aimed at helping to reduce the number of listed and historic buildings at risk in Scotland.

The current BARR team – Alex Adamson, Neil Adams and Isabel Fry – will be moving to RCAHMS (from the SCT) with the project. This will provide good continuity for the work. The BARR team can be contacted from 1 April as follows:

• by mail at RCAHMS, John Sinclair House, 16 Bernard Terrace, Edinburgh EH8 9NX

• by e-mail at bar@rcahms.gov.uk or individually at alex.adamson@rcahms.gov.uk; neil.adams@rcahms.gov.uk; and Isabel.fry@rcahms.gov.uk.

• by phone at 0131 651 6854

The BARR website will remain in use with little change until further notice.
