Description

Art Deco cinema on an L-plan with a small 2 storey frontage onto the street. The ground floor is recessed with 3 double doors set in a white tiled reveal. The first floor features a recessed window strip capped by a deco pediment.

Cinema built for Mr William H Dickson and another, by Messrs Stellmacs of Glasgow, who also prepared the plans. Cost £6,000 to seat 1,100 (Dictionary of Scottish Architects)

Development History
October 2000: External inspection shows the cinema to be vacant and deteriorating. The wooden frames of the windows are allowing water to intrude into the building and there is vegetation growth in places. 5 May 2004: The Carrick Gazette reports on the cinema's inclusion on the Buildings at Risk Register. 6 May 2004: The Carrick Gazette reports that the cinema has now been converted into Omega Bingo (set to SAVED).
November 2009: External inspection finds the building is once again vacant and boarded up. Set to AT RISK.
June 2010: A member of the public contacts SCT to advise the building is currently being marketed for sale by agents Graham and Sibbald, offers in excess of £100,000.
March 2012: Local planners report the building remains at risk.
24 April 2012: External inspection finds since the previous site visit part of the Omega Bingo sign has been lost, allowing ingress by wind, water and pigeons (seen entering and leaving). The front doors have been boarded-up.
