Description

Simple gabled former warehouse. 3-storey and loft, rectangular-plan; set on sloping site. Lightly washed rubble. Some brick repairs and alterations to margins. Tie plates. Boarded shutters to most openings; some openings glazed. Coped skews. Grey slates. Circular tile ventilation holes at eaves to E and W.

The warehouse is prominently sited on the corner of Mill Street and Shore Street. The warehouse was formerly used for the storage of grain, in connection with Drummore Mill which was situated midway up Mill Street to the south, and was demolished in the 1970s. Planning permission granted 1989 for conversion to flats. (Historic Scotland)

Development History
1989: Planning Permission is granted for conversion into flats. October 1991: The owner asks for the building to be added to the Buildings at Risk Register. November 1991: External inspection reveals the store to be empty and in need of a new use. November 1994: Consent is granted for conversion into 4 flats. January 2000: All previous consents have now lapsed. External inspection reveals that the store remains at risk, with algae growth on the external walls and severe cracking to the end gable. April 2004: The owner confirms that the property is for sale at offers over £49,500. October 2005: mill has been purchased and new owner hopes to retore as an arts and crafts community facility.
July 2011: External inspection finds no significant change from the previous site visit. Planning permission and listed building consent for restoration and conversion to three flats were conditionally approved March 2011 ref: 11/P/1/0006 & 11/P/1/0007.
27 February 2014: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously.
16 July 2019: Listed Building Consent for alterations to form a dwelling is being sought (19/1063/LBC).
1 August 2024: Full Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for conversion into a dwelling were conditionally approved in 2019 (19/1062/FUL & 19/1063/LBC)
