Description
Early 19th century U-plan steading, remodelled at time of 1890s estate improvements by Sir John Burnet in 17th century Scot's style. Rubble-built in local brown sandstone with contrasting droved and chamfered cream sandstone dressings, later dressings stugged; crowstepped gables and beaked skewputts; pitched slated roofs with lead ridge flashing; gable stacks. Single-storey and single-storey and loft, open to E. E entrance flanked by pair tall 'relocated ashlar piers, square on plan with chamfered arrises and flat pyramid caps.
The stable block, unlike house and lodge, was not entirely re-built by Sir John Burnet, the former U-plan steading shown as "Baronald Farm" on the 1st edition OS map (1864) being simply remodelled. (Historic Scotland)

Development History
April 1996: External inspection reveals the steading remains unoccupied and partially ruinous. SCT understands it has suffered fire damage. November 1996: The new owner of the main house intimates that he is planning to restore the steading as phase II of the house's conversion to a hotel. The ranges may incorporate accommodation. December 1998: External inspection reveals that the buildings are continuing to deteriorate. SCT understands that restoration in the near future is now unlikely due to lack of funds. January 2001: SCT receives information that informal discussions have taken place between the owner and local planners regarding the restoration of the steading, though no firm proposals are as yet in place. July 2006: SCT receives notification from the owner that there is no change to the informnation presently held on this property.
August 2009: A member of the public contacts SCT to advise that there has been significant deterioration to the building since the last SCT site visit; the ranges are now mostly roofless and the turret is lying beside the structure. There has possibly been a fire.
March 2010: External inspection finds the former stables a ruinous shell that has deteriorated dramatically since the last site visit in 1998
8 August 2013: External inspection finds no significant change from the previous site visit.
29 October 2014: Listed Building Consent for the restoration and conversion of the former stables to form 3 dwellings is being sought ref: CL/14/0424.
20 July 2020: A member of the public notes consent is being sought for the conversion of the former stables, with adjacent new build dwellings, into residential use (P/20/0630).
