Development History
July 2002: The property is brought to the attention of the Buildings at Risk Service by a potential restorer. The owners are unwilling to sell the property as they are planning to restore it themselves into lettable accommodation. The house has latterly operated as offices for Kirkmabreck Quarry, although SCT understands it has stood empty for at least 10 years. April 2003: External inspection reveals that the openings are now all blocked up. There has been some slate slippage, and tree growth may be affecting the foundations. There are a number of other derelict properties also within Kirkmabreck Quarry. 30 April 2004: The Galloway Gazette reports on the property's inclusion in the Buildings at Risk Bulletin 2004-2005.
May 2011: Unable to complete site visit as building in grounds of operational quarry.
March 2012: Following contact from a member of the public, local planners advise they have requested Tarmac ensure Glebe House is kept secure, wind and water tight and ventilated. The owner of the property, Tarmac, has advised the House has been retained in their ownership to avoid potential conflict with occupiers should quarrying re-commence at Creetown Quarry. They have advised they will ensure that Glebe House is kept secure in the future.
26 February 2014: External inspection finds the building is not wind and watertight. Window openings have no glass and are open to the elements. The front door is boarded over. There are heavy growths of ivy to both gables and the rear elevation and the building is very damp. Condition downgraded to Poor.
17 January 2020: A member of the public advises a sales lot including Glebe House was recently marketed, and is now SSTC.
6 November 2020: A member of the public advises the property is now being marketed for sale. Offers around £165,000 are being sought through appointed agents Galloway and Ayrshire Properties.
22 March 2023: Member of the public advises us that work appears to be taking place at the site. An application for Listed Building Consent has been submitted for the installation of windows and doors, new roof and repointing as well as internal alterations to create a dwelling house.
