Description

Square tower with exaggerated cornice. 1851 Date stone in south elevation. Tooled ashlar construction in the main. Slated pitched roof with stone skews. Overall site bounded by a tall masonry wall.

The 1st edition OS 6inch map denotes the site as St Andrews Sawmill, Wilson's Imperial Gazetter of Scotland, published 1856, notes "There is now an extensive steam sawmill near the harbour".

Development History
November 2003: External inspection reveals the building to be vacant and bricked up. It remains in fair condition. August 2007: External inspection shows the building is in a very poor condition and maintence could keep it wind and water tight.
October 2010: Local planners advise building owned by Fife Council. Record updated accordingly.
November 2010: External inspection finds no significant change since the previous site visit. The property continues to deteriorate.
15 July 2014: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously.
30 November 2017: Conservation Area Consent for the demolition of the building is being sought ref: 17/03663/CAC. Risk level raised from low to high.
12 June 2019: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously, subject to general decline. Conservation Area Consent for demolition (previously noted) was withdrawn.
