Development History
15 July 2004: The Lanark Gazette reports that the school's older blocks, latterly used as a science block, closed in April after having been declared surplus to requirements. The rest of the school is due a £10 million upgrade in the coming years. Turner and Townsend Project Management has lodged plans for their conversion into 14 flats. August 2004: SCT welcomes the proposals, but expresses concern at some design details.
January 2010: External inspection finds the school vacant and boarded-up. Consents for conversion to form 14 residential flats were granted in Nov 2004 (ref: CL/04/0506 & CL/04/0485). Local planners advise, following the opening of the new Lanark Grammar School, the portacabins around the building are now being removed and that conversion works have yet to commence.
8 July 2013: External inspection finds no significant change from the previous site visit.
30 January 2014: The buildings are currently being marketed for sale as a development opportunity through agent DM Hall.
2 March 2018: The site remains under marketing for sale through DM Hall.
19 March 2020: Application submitted for permission to demolish building to enable the development of a 70-bed residential care home (ref: P/20/0365).
4 November 2022: Consent for partial demolition and creation of 8 flats and 31 new build dwellings within the cleared area (P/20/1751) has been conditionally approved, previous applications for full demolition being withdrawn. Site works are to commence shortly.
