Development History
November 2004: SCT understands the building has stood empty and disused for several years and is suffering from water ingress. November 2007: External inspection reveals the building to remain derelict. All the front windows have been boarded-over and several side window panes are broken. The gutters have significant amounts of foliage growth. The first floor window case mouldings are deteriorating. November 2007: Glasgow City Council's City Plan Development Strategy states that the City Council will encourage positive action to save a named selection of known buildings at risk, including this one.
October 2010: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as on our previous visit. The main cause for concern is plant growth on the cornice, north elevation and at downpipes.
25 October 2013: Local planners advise the ground floor remains in partial use by a taxi firm. The upper floor remain disused.
29 May 2014: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously - the roof remains in poor condition with a section collapsed to the rear annexe walls have significant vegetation growth some delamination and signs of water penetration. Glasgow City Council has prepared Area Development Framework (ADF) as part of its commitment in the East End Local Development Strategy. The ADF (2012) identifies an opportunity to stimulate development interest in the south east corner of Calton, in which the former police station lies, and restore the townscape.
9 February 2023: External inspection finds that the building continues to deteriorate. The roof of the middle section of the rear wing has collapsed. The roof of the single-storey north wing suffers from slipped and missing slates. Several of the glazing blocks on the wing have been vandalised. Failure and decay of the timber windows frames is visible. Vegetation continues to grow from the masonry. Damp and delamination are issues on all visible elevations. The north elevation was not accessible for full assessment. Condition is moved to VERY POOR to reflect the collapse of the roof and further deterioration of the fabric.
