Development History
June 2008: External inspection finds the shop premises vacated and some of the building fabric to the rear in poor condition. Conservation Area consent to demolish part of the existing shop and external canopy roof has been lodged 07/02311/CON.
September 2011: Scottish Civic Trust report the ground floor has been boarded over. It appears the building is fully vacated. The building is being advertised for short term let via agent Mason Owen.
12 July 2012: External inspection finds the canopy to the side elevation has been demolished. The building to the rear of the site is in a poor condition with leaking downpipes and structural cracks. The building remains disused. Conservation Area Consent to demolish part of existing shop and external canopy roof and alterations and extension, was withdrawn Jun 2011 ref: 07/02311/CON. A Change of Use application was approved to Class 3 food and drink Dec 2011 ref: 11/01603/APP. The site is being marketed for sale/ lease through DM Hall and Mason Owen agents.
14 July 2015: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously.
23 August 2022: The Elgin City Centre Masterplan (2021) proposes to reduce the number of the disused buildings in the city centre by 2026. The former Junner's shop forms part of a wider site Moray Council is encouraging a mixed use redevelopment of.
4 March 2024: Conservation Area Consent (24/00304/CON) for the complete demolition of the property is being sought 22/02/2024.
Full Planning Permission (24/00300/APP) is being sought for mixed use development of affordable flats, retail units, business enterprise hub and new public realm comprising a pedestrian route connecting South Street to High Street and a courtyard.
