Former bakery building in Italianate style. Polychromatic brick structure over 3 storeys to main block. Two projecting bays from the overall five bays rise to 4 and 5 storeys respectively. Believed to have a concrete and steel structure with the ovens, lifts, white tiled walls all still in place.
The bakery is said to have at one time baked vast quantities of bread to be distributed via Mail Steamer throughout the west coast and islands. (Argyll & Bute Council)

Development History
June 2000: External inspection finds the building for sale by auction. There are smashed windows and a roofless section.
November 2008: Local planners report that the building is vacant and in need of restoration. An Options Appraisal has been commissioned by the council as part of Rothesays bid for a THI scheme.
June 2009: Argyll and Bute Council contact SCT to advise that a planning application for conversion to flats under consideration.
December 2009: External inspection finds this characterful building appears fairly sound, but is neither wind nor watertight.
May 2010: Local planners report planning permission was granted for conversion to 4 flats 25/6/09 (09/00314/DET)
September 2010: Local planners advise an application for a Building Warrant was submitted.
30 August 2012: External inspection finds early works to the roof appear to be underway, with a new fence surrounding the site. Moved to Restoration in Progress.
13 July 2016: A member of the public advises restoration works continue.
6 February 2024: The conversion of the former bakery into flats is thought to continue - a completion certificate for the works does not appear to have been issued yet.
