Description

Part of a long range of newly harled property; stepped ridge roof, pantiled at either end. (Historic Scotland) Previously formed part of the premises of G Hay and Sons, along with much of the rest of the terrace. Photographs in the RCAHMS archive, part of an internal and external survey from 1997, show, to the rear, an external stair to the upper floor. There is suggestion the building functioned as a granary at some point. Where the cement render is failing, random rubble construction is visible. Appears on the 1st edition (six inch) OS map.

Development History
July 1996: External inspection reveals the building to be empty and boarded-up. George Hay and Sons have now vacated the building following retirement. January 1997: Estate agents report that the property is now under offer. It has been marketed with full Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for conversion into 8 residential units. March 1998: Local planners report that the new owner has submitted an application for conversion, along with part-demolition and a limited new build. December 1998: The application is approved. November 2000: SCT understands that works have commenced.
March 2009: External inspection finds that any building works appear to have ceased. The window openings have been covered over and the door is padlocked. The render is falling away in the street elevation. Buildings to the south west in the terrace appear to have been restored.
August 2011: External inspection finds no significant change from the previous site visit.
9 August 2016: Listed Building Consent for alterations to form a dwelling house for 4-5 Hay Terrace is being sought ref: 16/00845/LBC.
