Development History
July 2009: External inspection suggests that the house has been vacant for some time. The glazing has generally been lost from the windows and openings have been covered over with timber boarding, though some of this has come away leaving the interior open to the elements. The roof is in need of re-slating and the rainwater goods are either broken or blocked.
June 2010: A member of the public contacts SCT to advise that the building is known locally as the Tannery, as a tannery was sited nearby.
8 January 2013: The building is noted as formerly the manager's house for the nearby tannery works in an appraisal of Thornhill for potential designation as a Conservation Area. The proposed boundary for Conservation Area designation includes the property. At the time of the report being published (Aug 2012) the property remained At Risk.
26 June 2015: External inspection finds the building remains generally in much the same condition as seen previously. The condition of the central chimney stack is notably deteriorating.
An area within Thornhill village was designated a conservation area in 2014. The boundary of the new conservation area includes the former tannery manager's house.
