Development History
January 2010: External inspection finds this simple, but interesting vernacular building, now boarded up. The roof is in poor condition and there are signs of structural movement. South Lanarkshire Council has applied for Conservation Area Consent (CL/10/0039) to demolish both 10 and 14 Delves Road. The supporting information sites their poor condition as a deterrent to renovation. The cleared site would then be used for a development, although no formal plan for development has been lodged at this time. SCT objects to the application.
March 2010: The application to demolish the building is withdrawn by South Lanarkshire council.
16 May 2012: A member of the public forwards a recent picture of the cottage which has been fire damaged. All but one section of the roof has been lost, with further damage to the interior. Condition changed to ruinous. An article in the Lanark Gazette, 25 April 2012, reported the fire had been started deliberately and had also caused a powercut for some parts of Lanark. Local planners report that consolidation works will be undertaken to make the remaining structure safe following the fire. The remaining roof will be removed for safety and gables reduced in height slightly. The Council is investigating development opportunities for the wider area and would hope to incorporate the cottage within this.
12 December 2013: External inspection finds the roof and upper part of the gable demolished following the fire, noted previously. Openings remain blocked.
