Description

Single storey red brick building, part harled. Gabled front has central round-headed doorway with stucco margin round head and flanking pilasters. 2-leaf 6-panel door with semi-circular fanlight. Bays flanking entrance have single round-headed windows, with Georgian cast-iron window frames, set in cream-harled panel terminating at sides in pilaster. Upper part of gable treated as pediment, with sides and base bands of brick with one course set diagonally. Terra-cotta monogram panel in tympanum and cast-iron terminal. Sides blind, divided into 3 bays by pilasters, eaves band with diagonal brick course. Brick base couse, stepping down to rear at sides. Roof slated, with 3 large skylights on each side and stumps of 2 ventilators on ridge. (Historic Environment Scotland List Entry)

This building may well have been associated with the neighbouring 'Brown's Institute'. (RCAHMS)

Development History
February 2010: External inspection suggests that the building is vacant. The openings to the rear are blocked. The front elevation has a boarded window and a security notice and the building is in need of general maintenance.
24 October 2014: External inspection finds the general condition of the building has significantly deteriorated with the roof showing signs of collapse.
18 November 2019: Listed Building Consent for demolition of the building is being sought (19/0945/LB).
13 December 2019: Record updated to note the property is B-listed.
16 January 2023: The Darvel Area Regeneration Team have informed us that a feasibility study has been carried out for the hall.
