Development History
July 2010: External inspection finds this strikingly unusual building appears fully, or mostly vacant. The ground floor public conveniences are boarded up and a notice advises they are permantly closed. The first floor may be in use as offices.
17 December 2012: A member of the public advises a report in The Courier notes the property has been sold by Fife Council to a developer with an aim to convert the building into offices.
6 December 2013: A member of the public advises that the property has been marketed for sale through agents Shepherd, and appears to currently be Under Offer.
21 May 2014: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously. A For Sale board remains affixed to the property.
21 November 2014: The site remains under marketing for sale through agent Shepherd Commercial at offers over £150,000.
1 March 2018: The property does not appear to be under marketing for sale at this time.
5 June 2018: External inspection finds no significant change from the previous site visit. Ground floor window glazings and sections of masonry appear to have been removed and replaced by boarding. Windows have been re-painted since the previous site visit and the "Ladies" toilet sign has been removed. Full Planning Permission for alteration to window opening & replacement shopfronts was conditionally approved May 2017 ref: 17/00567/FULL. It is unclear whether the upper floors have been brought back into use as office space - the property may have been partially brought back into use. A previous application was conditionally approved for change of use to financial/ professional & other services ref: 13/02037/FULL.
22 November 2018: A member of the public advises office/ retail space is currently being marketed for lease within the building. Graham Sibbald is the appointed agent.
16 March 2022: Planning permission (19/00150/FULL) for change of use from public convenience (class 10) to hot food take away and external alterations including installation of rear ventilation flue and planning permission (19/00149/FULL) for change of use from public convenience to restaurant (class 3) with ancillary take away and external alterations including installation of rear ventilation flue both conditionally approved.
3 May 2024: The two ground floor retail units are being marketed for let through Graham Sibbald. Unit 1 is being let for £12,000 per annum and unit 2 for £18,000 per annum.
