Development History
July 2011: Fine building in fair condition but only partly occupied.Under marketing for sale, in part. Monitor at ALERT.
30 June 2016: Property being marketed for sale, as a development opportunity, through auction at Future Property Auctions at a guide price of £65,000.
26 September 2016: External inspection finds the majority of the prominent corner building remains disused and in deteriorating condition, notably to the Brougham Place elevation where dampness and algae/ moss growth are evident beneath broken/ defective rainwater goods. At the shaped gables stone erosion and open joints are evident. Slipped and missing slates are evident to the Brougham Street roof pitch. The High Street elevation appears, externally, to be in better condition. The rear elevation could not be seen. Full Planning Permission for change of use and conversion of the upper floors to 10 flats was conditionally approved Oct 2014 ref: 14/00650/FUL. A sign is affixed to the site advertising it, in part, for sale through auctioneers Future Property Auctions. Moved to At Risk.
8 May 2018: The site (excepting ground floor retail units) is being marketed for sale though auction by Future Property Auctions at a guide price of £77,500.
8 July 2021: Hawick’s Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) is underway. The CARS will include a range of heritage and conservation based regeneration activities within the town and will run until 2025. More information on the scheme and available grants within the CARS boundary area can be found on Scottish Borders Council website.
11 November 2022: Hawick Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme officer reports grant aided repair works have commenced. The current works are to the frontage only but will enable part of the building to support use of this section. No works are currently planned for the rear of the building. Moved to Restoration in Progress.
