Description

A group of single storey and two storey stone built farm buildings grouped around a courtyard adjacent to Barrhead Road. Formerly with slated roofs, very little of which remains.

The site appears on the 1st edition (1:2;500 series) as East Cowglen with a square plan building to the East, of which little remains extant, and a long rectangular plan range. By the second edition the site is known as Broompark and the rectangular range has been extended into an L-plan. By the third edition a new range, to the rear of the L-plan and running in parallel, is evident.

A photographic copy of a watercolour, one of a number of the buildings within the Pollok estate dating from circa 1800-1830, of a farm called East Cowglen is held in RCAHMS collections. However, this site would appear to be an earlier farm, evident on John Thompson's 1826 county map of Renfrewshire, sited closer to the Brock Burn.

Development History
18 July 2013: External inspection finds the former farm, now in close proximity to a busy road, now in a ruinous condition.
10 August 2019: A member of the public notes that the second story section fronting Barrhead Road has been taken down or collapsed between 2013 and 2015, with the door now sealed off. The rest of the buildings remaining in a ruinous and overgrown condition.
1 June 2023: External inspection finds the complex to be a roofless ruin. Since the previous site visit the complex is being engulfed by vegetation. There is widespread mortar loss to walls, loose stones, vegetation growing in walls and the interior. The north range's walls appear to have bulges near the wallhead to both front and rear elevations, and a lean to the west gable. The courtyard buildings could not be assessed as they are being encroached by trees. Risk level increased from moderate to high.
