Description
Art Nouveau refronting of earlier 3-storey, rectangular-plan public building. Stugged and snecked red sandstone rubble to front, stugged and snecked cream sandstone rubble to sides and rear, slate roof, towers to Nicoll Street formerly pyramidal and slated (destroyed by fire), now flat.
The Nicol Street facade was built for the Ancient Order of Forseters, the building later being used as the first Dundee Repertory Theatre until closed by a serious fire.(Historic Environment Scotland List Entry)

Development History
10 July 2014: Nominated for the Register by local planners. The building is thought to have last been in full use in the 1960s as the home of the Dundee Rep before a serious fire gutted the building around 1968. Re-roofed subsequently but use is thought to be limited to a solicitors office on the ground floor. Dundee City Heritage Trust is also interested in the building. Local planners seeking further information on the condition of the building, level of use and any planning history. For Investigation.
11 May 2016: External inspection finds that with the exception of a ground floor office to the rear, the building appears to remain disused. Upper floor windows are bricked up. Dampness to masonry is evident, notably through the main entrance with accompanying residue of salts. Change of Use and Listed Building Consent for alterations to form offices were conditionally approved 2006 ref: 06/00050/COU & 06/00051/LBC Move to At Risk.
21 June 2018: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously. The main entrance has been boarded up.
5 April 2024: Full planning permission (ref:20/00598/FULL) and listed building consents (ref:20/00597/LBC) were conditionally granted for the conversion of existing building to form 10 residential apartments 17/03/2022. A building warrant has been submitted (ref:23/00060/DOM1).
