Kirbister Meal Mill, Kirbister

2 1/2 storey meal mill in random rubble with a Caithness slate roof. A pent-house (formerly over the wheel) sits to the west, whilst a barn sits to the east. The mill originally contained 2 kilns and 2 waterwheels, for milling and threshing respectively.

December 1990: External inspection reveals the mill to be deteriorating, with its roof in poor condition. It is currently used as a store. SCT receives information that a heritage grant was offered in 1984, but was not taken up. 1998: The property is sold. September 2000: External inspection reveals its condition to have deteriorated. July 2004: External inspection reveals no obvious change to the building fabric.

December 2008: Orkney Council forward recent images of the mill.

August 2009: External inspection finds no change to the condition of the building. The risk is changed from Low to Moderate due to the length of time the building has been disused.

9 September 2013: External inspection finds the building relatively unchanged, though weed growths to the gutters have increased.

5 March 2024: Desk-based assessment suggests building remains At-Risk.
