Cambusnethan Parish Church (Former), Kirk Road, Cambusnethan

Rectangular-plan ruinous church, aligned EW; birdcage belfry to W gable, roof and E gablehead missing, 18th century addition to NE; squared and snecked yellow sandstone rubble. (Historic Scotland)

Replaced by a new parish church now itself called Cambusnethan Old Parish Church having been declared in a "ruinous and dangerous condition" in 1837. Used in 19th century as the Houldsworth family mausoleum. The church was itself a replacement of a mediaeval parish church at Carbarns and was part of the Bishopric of Glasgow as a 'mensal kirk' - all its revenue from tithes and church lands went to the Bishop of Glasgow's private income. February 2008: External inspection finds the building to be a ruinous shell. The wallheads are loose and require consolidation

June 2010: External inspection finds that the building remains derelict. Plants are increasing their grip on the structure, growing along the wallheads, in masonry joints and in the interior.

13 November 2014: External inspection finds further secure fencing has been erected around the building. Otherwise, the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously.
