Addistoun Doocot, Ratho

Double-chambered, 2-stage lectern dovecot. Rubble with harl-pointing; ashlar quoins; stugged sandstone margins. Crowstepped gables; ashlar coping along roof ridge. Rat course with slate coping; 2 to gables (upper with course coping).

Doocot to the former dower house, Addistoun, of Dalmahoy House and was incorporated into the policies of Dalmahoy in the latter half of the 18th century. The original house was demolished in the 1930s. (Historic Environment Scotland)

August 2008: External inspection finds the roof deteriorating; there are signs of collapse and some holes in slates. Vegetation is growing in the masonry. The doocot‘s door is unsecured.

16 November 2013: External inspection finds no significant change from the previous site visit.

19 February 2015: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously.

10 November 2020: External inspection finds no significant changes from previous visit. The roof continues to slowly decline, with obvious sagging and a hole developing. Walls in need of repointing but appear sound. Door open and in need of painting.
