6 July 2012: Nominated by a member of the public. A new school has been constructed and the original Victorian Road school is surplus to requirements. The school is currently (2012) being marketed for sale as a development opportunity. Set to For Investigation
6 March 2019: External inspection finds this school disused and in overall Poor condition. Grounds have been secured by heres fencing and Danger signs have been affixed to fencing and gates. There are numerous broken and/or boarded windows throughout. Rainwater goods are blocked with extensive vegetation growths and further vegetation growths are visible on the roof. There is an overall appearance of lack of maintenance. Iron elements are in need of repair. Move to At Risk. Condition Poor. Risk Moderate. Building was only surveyed from Victoria Road. No views of Abbey Road Elevation were obtained.
10 May 2019: The Press and Journal report firefighters are tackling a major fire at the former school. The fire has caused the roof to collapse. Condition moved to Very Poor, Risk to Critical. (10/05/2019)
22 November 2019: Grampian Housing Association, working in collaboration with Torry Development Trust, have submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of existing site to include construction of two new buildings and conversion of existing buildings to accommodate 50 affordable homes, a nursery and community space with associated landscaping, parking and works. Planning reference: 191741/DPP.
1 July 2020: Press and Journal website (01/07/2020) notes pre-site works, in anticipation of converting the former school into affordable homes, have started. Risk level dropped to Low.
2 February 2022: Planning permission (211794/DPP) being sought for conversion of building to form 14no. affordable housing units including formation of entrance doors and porch, installation of rooflights, ramp with handrails and wall cladding; formation of dormers with associated landscaping and car parking (partial reconfiguration of planning consent reference 19174/DPP).
3 February 2022: Scottish Construction Now reports (27/01/2022) that new plans have been submitted for the property seeking 55 homes rather than the previously requested 50, along with community facilities. The article goes on to note that revised designs also plan to retain the principal elevation of the original building and reuse much of the existing granite, with damaged historic gables and other features being reconstructed using salvaged granite. Work is planned to start Summer 2022.
